Tips on touching up your hair colour

Blend away greys & refresh your roots with this handy guide

If it’s been a while since your last salon visit or at-home hair colour and you’re not quite ready to rock the grown-out roots look, fear not. These top tips will help you disguise greys and revamp your colour, the professional way.

Back to your roots

First things first, step away from the hair dye! That’s not what’s needed here. When touching up your roots, there’s no need to re-colour the rest of your hair. Adding more colour on top of your existing colour could make it look dull, flat and uneven. No thanks!

Instead, you want to use a product like L’Oréal Magic Retouch Instant Root Concealer Spray, which is perfect or a temporary root fix. It’s been formulated to refresh roots and help disguise greys, leaving you with colour that’s perfectly blended.

Designed as an at-home solution to helping your hair colour go the distance, it features a lightweight formula that’s so easy to use.

How to apply

First, pull your hair back tightly and spray the product from around 13cm away, all around your hairline. Then, simply divide your hair into
sections (quarters should be fine) and only spray directly onto the roots. Let it dry for a minute before you style it.

Select your shade

Finding your perfect shade of L’Oréal Magic Retouch Instant Root Concealer Spray is easy – simply choose a shade slightly lighter than your hair colour. This will help the finer, lighter hairs at the root blend seamlessly with your current shade.

Layer up

When it comes to using L’Oréal Magic Retouch Instant Root Concealer Spray, apply the same rule as you would when you’re putting on makeup. Start with a little and layer it until you’re happy. It’s easier to add a little bit at a time in thin layers to build up to a coverage you’re happy with.

Lighten up around the hairline

Our top tip for natural-looking, even coverage? Choose a shade that’s even lighter for around your hairline. Colour absorbs differently into these baby hairs, so it’s best to go lighter here.

Seek shade

The sun can drastically dry out your hair (hello, hair masks), but did you know it can also cause coloured hair to fade faster? Keep your colour and your root touch-up in tip-top condition by limiting your sun exposure.

We’re not saying you have to stay out of the sun altogether, but it pays to be sensible if you really want your colour to last. If in doubt, pop on an oh-so-chic wide-brimmed hat – your hair colour will thank you for it, and you’ll look pretty chic too.
