SOLTAN
What’s the right SPF for me?
We’re all different when it comes to our skin, so what do you need to look for in an SPF?
At Soltan, we’d recommend always opting for a sunscreen with at least SPF30 protection, if not SPF50 (especially for children) and always look for a high UVA rating – Soltan provides the maximum 5* UVA.
From sprays and lotions to sticks and facial SPF, Soltan offers a range of different sunscreen formats and it’s all down to personal preference which format works best for your routine.
There are several other factors to take into consideration when choosing your sun protection, such as your skin’s sensitivity, finding the right protection for children, and your skin tone.
Melanin is a natural pigment in our skin that helps to protect against sun damage. The amount of melanin you make depends on your genes. Those with more melanin will likely have darker skin, eyes and hair, while those with less melanin will typically have fair skin and hair, light-coloured eyes, freckles and moles. No matter what skin tone you have, you should always wear sun protection all year round.
For sensitive skin
If your skin is sensitive to the sun or prone to breakouts, itching or redness, it can be tricky to find a sunscreen that doesn’t trigger this irritation. Light on the skin and dermatologically tested, Soltan Sensitive Protect range is specially formulated with sensitive skin in mind, featuring no colour or fragrance while still offering 5 * UVA protection. The range is available for both adults and kids, too.
For advanced protection
Want to get the most out of your sun care? Soltan Once Advanced 8 Hour Protect range is expertly formulated with Soltan’s sun care scientists to deliver up to eight hours of sun protection and 40 minutes of water protection from just one application.* So if you lead a busier lifestyle, get the peace of mind you deserve that you’re protected throughout the day. Plus, if you’ve got children, consider the Soltan Kids Once 8hr Protect & Play Spray SPF50+ which is great for applying on school days, giving you the extra reassurance that they’re protected while playing during the day.
For the kids
Getting kids to wear sunscreen can be a challenge in itself – we know they can be super eager to go and play. That’s why Soltan have developed a range of formats so you can easily apply their suncream without the fuss. Take extra care to protect babies and children, keeping babies younger.
Ready to find a regime? It’s as easy as 1, 2, 3…
Step 1: Wear a facial SPF
Much like brushing your teeth or making your bed, wearing a facial SPF should be part of your daily routine (yes, even in the winter!). Make it the last step of your skincare routine, applying after your moisturiser and before your make-up. Aside from protecting you against burning, applying a facial SPF acts as a barrier between your skin and the sun’s UV rays, to help prevent the likes of skin cancer and signs of premature skin ageing such as fine lines and wrinkles, hyperpigmentation and dark spots.
You might notice that some make-up products already contain an SPF, but this shouldn’t be used as a substitute for sunscreen as it won’t be enough to fully protect your skin from deliberate sun exposure. Make up products with SPF are applied at a thinner layer than required to fully protect your skin from sun exposure.
Wearing a moisturising SPF, like the Soltan Hydrating Sensitive Protect Facial Suncare Cream With Niacinamide SPF50+, is great for getting 5* protection. Specially formulated for sensitive skin, this nourishing formula is enriched with niacinamide to support the skin’s hydration, while the light and non-greasy texture makes it a great base for under your make-up. Just apply a light layer and let it sink in before going ahead with your usual routine.
You shouldn’t have to choose between skincare and sun care, which is why Soltan offer a range of skincare-inspired facial sun creams, packed with benefits. The Soltan Brightening Protect & Moisturise Facial Suncare Cream with Vitamin C SPF50+ gives skin a bright and radiant glow thanks to vitamin C, while the infusion of Hyaluronic Acid in the Soltan Once Age Defence Advanced 8hr Protect Facial Suncare Cream with Hyaluronic Acid SPF50+ provides intense hydration throughout the day and supports signs of premature ageing.
Step 2: Apply sunscreen from top-to-toe
A year-round step in your skincare regime.
Covering all areas of your body in sunscreen is important. From head-to-toe, make sure you apply a generous amount over the entire body, this is usually 2-3 tablespoons full. Don’t forget about the hard to miss spots like your neck, ears, feet and hands as well, ensuring you give yourself and all the family the best protection.
There’s a Soltan product to suit all the family from water-resistant sprays to moisturising lotions. If you want eight-hour protection for your wriggly kids, try our new Soltan Kids Once Roll On, perfect for mess-free application and gives you up to 8hr protection.*
Our top tip to stay properly protected in the sun is to keep your sunscreen topped up. It’s important to keep it topped up every two hours (even the sunscreens that are ‘once a day’ and ‘water resistant’) as it can rub off when it comes into contact with sand, water, towels or sweat. Try to avoid spending too much time in the sun between 11am and 3pm or limit the sun's exposure on your skin by wearing clothing with long sleeves, trousers or a hat.
Step 3: Don’t forget the after sun
On those hot days, your skin deserves some well-needed hydration to replenish the moisture that’s lost throughout the day. Soltan After Sun is specially designed to rehydrate, nourish and soothe the skin after exposure to the sun, helping to reduce redness and peeling too.
Soltan After Sun is packed with extra beneficial ingredients that help calm the skin while giving it a well-deserved moisture boost. Soltan Soothe & Cool Aftersun Mist is one of our all-time favourites, thanks to its easy application, instant cooling sensation and its light, moisturising formula of red algae extract and aloe vera that helps care for skin after sun exposure.
Top tip: pop it in the fridge during those hotter days to really cool down!
